Palm Sunday at Home (with Littles)

Palm Sunday at Home (with Littles)

Palm Sunday 🌿 always sneaks up on me.

One minute we’re just doing normal life—snacks, laundry, bedtime routines—and the next, we’re handed these long green palms and told: Holy Week has begun.

And somehow… it feels different.

Not in a big, dramatic way. But in a quiet, “pay attention” kind of way.

It Starts Here

At Mass, the kids are wiggly, the palms are everywhere, and someone is definitely hitting their sibling with one (just mine?).

But underneath the chaos, something real is happening.

Jesus is entering Jerusalem.
The crowds are shouting Hosanna.
And we’re stepping into the most important week of the year.

Not perfectly. Just honestly.

Bringing It Home (Without Overcomplicating It)

If you’re anything like me, you don’t need another elaborate plan.

So here’s what Palm Sunday looks like in our home:

We bring the palms inside and put them somewhere visible—usually wherever they end up first (kitchen counter, dining table… you get it).

The kids hold them, wave them, carry them around like prized possessions for approximately 20 minutes.

And somewhere in the middle of all that, I try to say something simple:

“Today we welcome Jesus. We’re walking with Him this week.”

That’s it.

No pressure for a perfect explanation. No Pinterest-perfect moment.

Just planting a small seed.

What I’m Learning as a Mom

I used to think these moments had to feel… bigger.

More structured. More meaningful. More memorable.

But I’m realizing my kids don’t need that.

They just need to live it.

To see that our faith isn’t separate from our everyday life—it’s right here in it. In the noise, the mess, the ordinary.

Palm Sunday doesn’t have to be impressive to matter.

A Gentle Beginning to Holy Week

This day isn’t about doing everything.

It’s about beginning.

Beginning the walk toward the Cross.
Beginning a slower, more intentional rhythm (even if just a little).
Beginning again, as a family.

And the beautiful part?

You don’t have to have it all figured out.

Just take the step.

A Simple Prayer (from one tired mom to another)

Jesus, we welcome You.
Into our home, our mess, our family.
Stay with us this week.
Help us follow You—simply and faithfully.
Amen.
